Umm, you should put a 1K resistor after or before the R1 9K variable resistor to avoid a shortcircuit if you put the resistor accidentally to 0 ohms… This is because the pin 7 is grounded while the device is working. The number of turns varies, and is determined by operating voltage, on time and core cross-sectional area. Thank you for this. Thanks for the fast replies! This is a diode across the transformer primary, with cathode at the Vs side.

I built this circuit lfyback a 12v 6 amp power supply. This is a future improvement and is not a part of this little project, but it is recommended to add this if you want reliability.
Flyback driver #2: NE555 quasi-resonant
Email Required, but never shown. I can run flyback transformers for an unlimited amount of time at kHz and 30 primary turns. What is your input voltage?
To find out more, including how to control cookies, see flybacl I have used two mosfets in parallel instead of one and used a potentiometer in place of the resistor going transformef to the oscillator supply rail. What is the best way to find the correct polarity for the primary coil? Your projects is really nice, you did a good job.
I am still getting little arc, but the current now is very low,now i am going to find the resonant frequency xD, thanks!! In which case it could be left out while testing with the small transformer? As you can imagine, the arcs were insane! All parts except the timer are non-critical.
It could also be that the arc is too long, they are very sensitive to air movement when too long. March 4, at Notice how everyone uses a mask when welding?
May 1, at Hey frejatet If the circuit trwnsformer pulling current and you have a whistling sound from the flyback transformer, I will assume that the circuit actually works. The duty cycle pot will vary power. You need to limit this voltage somehow; the usual technique is to put an R-C snubber across the source and drain of the MOSFET, sized so that the capacitor captures the energy of the spike before the voltage rises too high.

I got it figured out. October 6, at October 3, at The drain is connected to the wire that wraps around the flyback, and the source is connected to the negative power supply. It has a big red cable with a suction cup.
No, only one, but i tried with another to check if the problem was IRFP. The amount of turns depends on supply voltage. I tested between 3 to 15 V and i can get 3 A and some 2 cm arcs but everything is going wrong because of electromagnetic interference. They are very convincing and can definitely work.
Did you connect ground to the common pin of the flyback? Hey Josiah Its highest likely because the can not supply enough current to drive the MOSFET, so it is outputting all the current it can, thus it heats up.
I have read in this comment page that the more windings you have for the primary the less voltage you get. A magnet plasma vortex can be made with the round ferrite magnets found in microwave ovens. Nice arcs, sounds good too. That is why ordinary meter could not measure it because of it’s limit. This is what I hate the most.
